The Micro Market

Although it can be defined in different ways, we generally define the Micro Market as including businesses in the following ranges:

  • between $2 million and $25 million in revenues and/or
  • between $300,000 and $3 million in Earnings Before Interest, Depreciation and Amortization (EBITDA)

Micro Market businesses tend to be too large for the prototypical small business buyer and too small for larger financial and strategic buyers. Since a limited number of entities are interested in acquiring Micro Market businesses, these business transitions require special tactics and strategies.

Investment Criteria

Yarmouth Venture Group is uniquely focused on guiding talented individuals into ownership of businesses which perform in the Micro Market - businesses producing between $2 million and $25 million in revenues. We tend to be industry generalists seeking businesses that are established leaders in niche markets with the following characteristics:

  • Strong historical financial performance apparent in the company's revenue growth and profitability;
  • Tangible barriers to competition inherent in the company's products, these often take the form of sophisticated engineering, proprietary formulations and other types of intellectual property;
  • Attractive future growth prospects, which will increase both revenue and profitability; and
  • Industry leaders displaying a deep understanding of customers, competitors and supply partners.
